There
Are Two Ways to Take Your CDL Refresher Course
Through
a trucking company financed program, or
Through an independent accredited CDL driver training school
We receive many inquiries from
truck drivers about whether or not they need a CDL Class A
Refresher Course. We also receive many applications from truck
drivers who have already discovered that they need a CDL Class
A refresher course before they can get a driving job. When
you need a Refresher Course, in a sense, you are starting
over or at least having to take a step back before you can
take a step forward.
Not every trucking company offers
a CDL Class A Refresher Course, and not every truck driving
school offers a CDL Class A Refresher Course. So it can be
a difficult process to: (1) know whether or not you need a
Class A Refresher Course, and (2) know where to get your Class
A Refresher Course.
Typically, the
following is a guideline to determine whether or not you need
a Refresher Course:
- if you have acquired your CDL
Class A License and have not gone to work with a trucking
company within 60 days of your graduation date, you will
most likely need a 40 hour CDL refresher course
- if you have been off the road
for 12 months or more, you will most likely need a 40
hour CDL refresher course
There
are exceptions but they are few and far between. As
an example, If you have at least six (6) months otr experience
- in the last 3 years - you may not need a Refresher Course,
and we can place you with a company that will consider you
for a trucking job subject to other qualifications.
It's
important to choose the right trucking company or CDL driver
training school for your CDL refresher course, and here are
some things you should know:
- generally, taking a Refresher
Course through a trucking company is less expensive
- many companies that offered
in-house CDL Refresher Courses have discontinued those
courses
- trucking companies that do
offer CDL Refresher Courses are few and far between
- trucking companies that do offer CDL Refresher Courses
often place a freeze on those courses
- there are some companies that should be avoided

Mr. McCormack,
I can't begin to tell you how appreciative I am for what
you've done for me. After I graduated from CDL school I
went to work with a trucking company and they sent me home
because of a 'skills deficiency'. You made me realize that
since they terminated me during training it would be difficult
for me to get hired by another company, and you recommended
that I go to a particular school that specializes in this
area through their refresher course. This school is terrific
- I had 1-1 instructions working on my weaknesses and now
I'm ready to go to another company for orientation. This
time I know I'll succeed, thanks to you."
