How to Get Hired in Today's Economy

With the current state of the economy, we are receiving many applications from otr truck drivers needing a CDL Class A refresher course before they are eligible for hiring. In a sense, you are starting over or at least having to take a step back before you can take a step forward. It's important to choose the right trucking company or CDL driver training school for your CDL refresher course.

Typically, the following is a guideline to determine whether or not you need a CDL Refresher Course:

• if you have acquired your CDL Class A License and have not gone to work with a trucking company within 60 days of your graduation date, you will most likely need a 40 hour CDL refresher course
• if you have been off the road for 12 months or more, you will most likely need a 40 hour CDLrefresher course

There are exceptions but they are few and far between. As an example, If you have at least six (6) months otr experience - in the last 3 years - we can place you with a company that will consider you for a long haul trucking job subject to other qualifications.

There Are Two Ways to Take Your CDL Refresher Course

Through a trucking company sponsored CDL Class A program, or

Through an independent accredited CDL driver training school

It's important to note that recent graduates from an independent accredited CDL school, whether it be to get your CDL Class A License or to complete a CDL refresher course, are the candidates most likely to be hired by a trucking company at this time. The reason is that the trucking companies that do offer in-house CDL training and CDL Refresher Courses are very large companies with deep financial resources, but:

• they often are not hiring
• there are valid reasons why you should avoid most of these companies
• they are frequently placing a freeze on CDL Refresher Courses

The majority of the trucking companies that previously had offered CDL company sponsored training and in-house CDL Refresher Courses have discontinued those courses. Although these trucking companies continue to have a need for drivers they are only hiring drivers that have already acquired their CDL Class A certification or completed their CDL Refresher Course through another source.
